What Is BBL® HERO™️?
BBL® HERO™️ is the upgraded version of BBL®. Both technologies were developed by Sciton® Medical & Aesthetic Laser Technologies, which is a world leader in laser aesthetics. The two treatments are also part of Sciton’s famous Joule platform.
The “BBL” in the name is short for broadband light, a more powerful type of intense pulsed light (IPL). While often confused with laser skin resurfacing, IPL treatments like BBL® work differently from laser. Laser therapies use intense beams of light, while IPL treatment uses light that’s more like a flash lamp, covering a wider area of the skin and using a wide spectrum of wavelengths.
The “HERO” in the upgraded version of Sciton’s classic treatment stands for high energy rapid output. This advanced technology was added to Sciton’s BBL® handpiece to make the device more efficient. As a result, the upgraded version can treat multiple problems on a wider surface area and more quickly than its predecessors. It achieves all that with more comfort and less downtime.
How Does BBL® HERO™️ Work?
BBL® HERO™️ works similarly to other IPL therapies and lasers: by causing controlled injury to the skin that triggers skin rejuvenation.
This technology uses intense pulses of broadband light that can penetrate different layers of the skin with the help of changeable filters. Skin pigments absorb this light, and the light energy is then turned into heat energy. This causes controlled damage to targeted skin areas. The damaged areas gradually generate by new skin cells and more collagen and elastin fibers, resulting in smoother and more even skin.
Like other IPL-based therapies, BBL® HERO™️ targets deeper layers of the skin (dermis) without causing excessive damage to the top layers (epidermis). But what makes it different from other IPL therapies is its enhanced efficiency, speed and comfort. The addition of HERO™️ technology makes this device much more powerful and efficient, while the integrated cooling plates prevent skin injury and patient discomfort both during and after the treatment.
What Does BBL® HERO™️ Treat?
One of the best things about BBL® HERO™️ is that it can treat a wide range of cosmetic concerns on nearly every area of the body. If you would like to address more than one imperfection in a single session or need treatment for both face and body, this treatment is a perfect choice.
Some of the problems we regularly treat with this technology include:
- Freckles and age spots
- Uneven skin tone
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sagging skin
- Broken capillaries
- Redness and rosacea
- Skin dullness
- Acne
Areas of the body we can treat include the face, neck, chest, arms, legs, back, buttocks and abdomen. In other words, we can treat your head to toe using BBL® HERO™️ alone.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
Working at four times the speed and three times the power of older technologies, treatment duration times are reduced by 75% with BBL® HERO™️. That’s why it can take as little as five minutes to treat the entire back area. In comparison, some older types of laser take 45 minutes for the same treatment area.
How long your treatment will take depends on the size of the treatment area and what concern is being addressed. While most patients require one treatment for maximum results, others may need two treatments spaced six to 12 weeks apart. Considering that older IPL therapies require five to six sessions to make a noticeable difference, it’s easy to see why more and more people are choosing BBL® HERO™️ to rejuvenate their skin.
When Will I See the Results?
After your BBL® HERO™️ treatment, you can expect to initially see redness and darkening in the treatment area. This is normal — it’s a sign that the treatment was effective and the healing process is taking place. Because this is a no-downtime treatment, you won’t have to take time off, and you can expect to see results relatively quickly.
The redness and swelling post-treatment should subside within a couple of hours. After that, you may notice gradual darkening of the treated area that should disappear in seven to 14 days.
After those two weeks are up, your skin will look smoother and brighter, with a diminishment of dark spots and uneven skin, as well as an improvement in skin tightness. Your results should continue to improve over the coming months as more collagen and elastin fibers form.
