What Is RF Microneedling?
Radiofrequency microneedling is a minimally invasive aesthetic treatment that combines microneedling and RF technology. Like traditional microneedling, the treatment uses tiny needles to create microscopic punctures in the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production. However, it also delivers RF energy (heat) through these same needles, which makes treatment overall more effective.
The main benefit of RF microneedling is collagen remodeling. Many skin issues are due to either too little or too much collagen. Collagen remodeling, which results in greater collagen production and tighter collagen and elastin fibers, creates tighter, smoother and younger-looking skin. And because this treatment is minimally invasive and does not remove the top layer of the skin, there’s little to no downtime.

How Matrix Pro® Boosts Collagen
Collagen is the structural protein in your skin. It gives your skin structure, support and strength. Unfortunately, your skin produces less and less collagen as you age, leading to loss of elasticity and thickness. The result is fine lines, wrinkles, skin sagging and other textural issues. Your skin can also produce too much collagen in response to injury, resulting in visible scarring.
One way to help your skin’s collagen production is through controlled injury. Matrix Pro does this through a combination of microneedling and RF energy. Its 49 microscopic needles, with a diameter of only 0.16 mm, create micro-channels in the skin. This alone jumpstarts the skin’s healing process, which includes collagen remodeling. However, Matrix Pro takes things further by delivering RF energy deep into the skin. The results are more dramatic this way than what is achievable with microneedling alone.
But what makes Matrix Pro different from other RF microneedling devices is its ability to work at three depths of the skin at once. This means we can treat the entire skin in one pass, which minimizes downtime and discomfort.

The Matrix Pro® Experience
A minimally invasive treatment with little to no downtime, there’s no doubt Matrix Pro offers a comfortable and exciting patient experience. Here’s what you can expect when getting this treatment.
Preparation
Follow a good skincare routine in the days leading up to your appointment. This includes daily cleansing, moisturizing and sun protection. It also includes avoiding sun exposure, tanning beds and artificial tans for at least four weeks before treatment.
We will advise you to limit the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and supplements that may thin the blood the week before treatment to reduce your risk of bleeding and bruising.
Procedure
We will begin by cleansing your skin and then applying a topical numbing cream. You may need to wait up to 40 minutes for the numbing cream to take effect. Once you are ready for treatment, we will carefully guide the applicator across the treatment area for up to 30 minutes. The duration of treatment depends on the size of the area being treated. As far as the sensation goes, this treatment is more comfortable than other forms of RF microneedling thanks to the small needle size and efficient technology. However, it’s still normal to experience mild prickling and burning sensations.
We typically schedule three treatment sessions spaced four weeks apart for best results. For more stubborn problems like wrinkles, stretch marks and acne scars, we may recommend combining Matrix Pro RF with Sublative RF. The combined RF heat accelerates the skin’s healing and thickening, resulting in a more rejuvenated appearance. In some patients, Matrix Pro RF can be combined with the 1927 nm laser to improve surface irregularities such as pigment and pores.
Recovery
Immediately after treatment, your skin will appear red, similar to a mild sunburn. This should be resolved within the first 24 to 48 hours. To promote optimal healing during this time, it’s important to avoid alcohol and exposing your skin to harsh cosmetics and direct sunlight.
