The best candidates for face and neck lift are men and women that have developed noticeable sagging in the lower face and neck areas.
What is the best age to consider a face-lift?
Most face-lifts are performed in patients between the ages of 40 and 75. There is no best age to have a face-lift procedure although increasing evidence suggests that the operation lasts longer and looks more natural when patients have the procedure at a younger age when they still have good skin tone and elasticity.
How long does the procedure take?
Most procedures take between 3 and 4 hours depending on the operation performed. Mini-lifts or partial-facelifts take less time than a complete operation. The length of the procedure will also vary depending on whether any complimentary procedures are performed at the same time, such as blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), fat transfer, and chin augmentation.
Where is the procedure performed?
The procedure can be performed in a variety of settings depending on the needs of the patient. Most procedures are performed in-office or at an ambulatory surgery center. Some patients prefer a hospital setting.
What type of anesthesia will I need?
The procedure an be safely performed with the anesthesia of the patient's choice. Some patients elect to have oral sedation while others prefer intravenous sedation similar to that used in colonoscopy. Other patients prefer general anesthesia.
Where are the face-lift incisions placed?
The incisions are placed around the ear in such a way that they blend imperceptibly with the hairline and natural creases of the face. The incisions should heal with no change to the shape of the ear and virtually no visible scar.
Do You tighten the deep layers of the face?
Yes, we frequently perform a separate tightening of the muscles in the face (SMAS) and neck (Platysma).
How long is the recovery?
Recovery time will depend on the age and health of the patient and the extent of the procedure performed. Most patients can return to their normal social and business activities after about 2 weeks.
What are the risks of face-lift?
Every operation carries a certain amount of risk. However, serious complications following face and neck lift are extremely rare. Most patients experience only the normal side effects of surgery such as bruising, swelling and temporary numbness around the ear. It is important to ask your surgeon about thereto tell you about any serious complications when performing the face-lift operation.
Can you combine face-lift with other procedures?
Yes, of course!. The face-lift procedure is often combined with complimentary procedures that help to achieve balance and harmony between the upper and lower face. Eyelid surgery, fat transfer and skin resurfacing are often combined with face-lift to achieve the most natural and youthful results.
Is it possible to have more than one face-lift procedure?
Yes. When properly performe it is possible to have more than one face-lift operation without developing a "pulled" or "swept appearance.
